Policy framework

supporting change

Ethstat Ethical Stationery is a different kind of organisation.  We believe in an equal society, and that good business means providing first-class customer service and using the profits to build a better world. Creating long term change means having values, structures, and a policy framework which supports our customers, the people we help and the environment.

Below you will find some of the key policies that define how we work.

A company run by its staff

we pay a Living wage

Ethstat Ethical Stationery CIC is a co-operative, run by the people who work for it and owned by the people that use it. When you buy from us you become a member.  You have a voice in making our decisions and in helping the causes we are passionate about.  We are the only social enterprise in the sector which guarantees 100% of our profit is given away. We use this to help some of the most vulnerable people in society. That includes our staff.

We have to practise what we preach for others. All our staff are paid the higher living wage. People, planet, society and environment are all connected. We must look after them equally.

If, like us, you are passionate about our environment and creating positive social change in society, your greatest power is the pound in your pocket.  By buying from us and becoming a member, you become powerful in the fight against climate change and inequality.  Unlike anyone else, we give you control of where your money is spent, the impact it has and in deciding who benefits.  Come join us, and together we can change the world – one person, one society at a time.

Modern Slavery Act 2015

Modern slavery and human trafficking policy statement 2019
Introduction from the Managing Director

Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking. All of these have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain. We abhor these practices and are committed to improving our practices to combat slavery and human trafficking. We refuse to trade with any organisation that does not have a comprehensive modern slavery policy and will not supply any products which do not have a provable ethical origin.  We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity and transparency in all our business dealings, and to putting effective systems and controls in place to safeguard against any form of modern slavery taking place within the business or our supply chain.

This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending April 2019.

The cooperative, its supply chains and members

Ethstat Ethical Stationery CIC is a provider of facility management supplies across the United Kingdom. Our supply chain is complex and encompasses a number of global suppliers.  However, by the nature of our procurement policy, the overwhelming majority of the products we source are from within the European Union and have auditable employment, union and anti-slavery policies.

Where products are sourced from outside the EU, we ensure that the factories have auditable employment, unionisation and anti-slavery policies.

As a Community Interest Co-operative, we are aware that we have a special ethical responsibility and that our customers are also members of the company. For this reason, we have a responsibility to audit our members with the same rigour as our suppliers.
